Evaluation of the ICD Flashcards
+ Mason (SZ symptoms - validity)
Mason found that the ICD was good at predicting SZ symptoms and diagnoses amongst patients. In 99 people with SZ, the ICD was reasonably food at predicting their disability 13 years later - predictive validity
+ Two researchers (reliability)
In a study in which two researchers conducted a joint interview to assess 100 consecutive clients for psychosomatic symptoms, the kappa values ranged from 0.69-0.97, showing very high agreement - inter-rater reliability
+ Jakobsen (test with SZ patients - reliability and validity)
Jakobsen et al assessed 100 subjects for SZ using the DSM and found high agreement between the clinical diagnoses made using the ICD, and between the ICD and DSM - concurrent validity + inter-rater reliability
- Ponizovsky (PPV scores - reliability)
A study by Ponizovsky found PPV scores (the proportion of people who retain the same diagnosis when reassessed) as low as 55% for disorders such as childhood disorders and personality disorders - test-retest reliability
+ Hiller (reliability compared to DSM-III)
Hiller compared ICD-10 to DSM-III. The ICD gave higher reliability for all disorders except for bipolar (- however, DSM has improved since third edition)
