  3. Decrease in participation after the event (temporary affect)
  4. If unsuccessful, it can have a negative effect on the profile of the sport

  6. Any deviance / scandals will have a negative effect on the sport

  2. During the event, local prices may increase
  3. Focus and investment given to the event rather than long term local issues

  3. Possible increase in trade and exporting = commercial factors
  4. Improved infra-structure (transport)

  2. Might lead to debt of financial strain
  3. Increase in taxes for local people to fund the event

  5. If events / participants are linked to failure or deviant behaviour, then sponsors can be negatively affected

  1. Successful host can make a government appear successful
  2. Employment oppertunities may improve government popularity (votes)
  3. Can bring unity to the country and a sense of purpose which is good for the government = nation building

  1. Financial cost of hosting may make the political party unpopular
  2. Increased threat of terrorism / security risks
  3. If the host country doesn’t perform well it may lower nations esteem
  4. Negative environmental impacts (litter can decrease popularity of a political party)
  5. If the legacy of the event is poor (facility use, participation rates) could reflect badly as public money has been poorly spent
  6. Political protest can look bad on the country
