Bandura found that children were more likely to imitate the violent actions of model adults in a lab experiment if they saw them being rewarded. Furthermore, it has been shown that children can develop phobias when they observe anxious behaviour in adults.

This theory explains why people imitate the behaviours of their family members and those in the media. It can be used to explain both copycat violence and the power of influencers. Can also explain why crime runs in families.

Other factors provide strong explanations for the behaviours SLT looks at. For example, the Biological Approach has strong evidence that links aggression and violence to genetics and hormones, and phobias can be explained by looking at evolution. Genetic factors have also been found to be important in learning. This shows that SLT is an incomplete theory.
