Evaluation for KC2 Flashcards
Research
Research has shown that there are cases where a biologically male baby develops female sex organs if the SRY gene does not function properly, showing how important it is.
Applications
An understanding of how our genotype (genetics) interacts with the environment to produce our phenotype helps us to treat things such as depression. We understand that there can be a biological vulnerability (genetics) but this is triggered by the environment. Treatments for depression can therefore focus on both for example drug treatments and stress reduction.
Weaknesses
Oversimplification and an incomplete theory because it ignores the importance of other factors. Cognitive factors and learning have been shown to be important in the development of disorders such as depression, it cannot simply be explained by looking at a ‘gene’.
