Evaluating The Working Memory Model Flashcards
Case study:
Shallice and Warrington (1970)
SC and LH
SC had good learning abilities but couldn’t learn word pairs out loud showing a damaged PL.
LH performed better on spatial take than visual imagery showing separate visual and spatial systems
The Central Executive
Case study:
Eslinger and Damasio (1985)
EVR
The central executive may have different components: EVR performed well on reasoning tests showing that his CE was intact but also had poor decision making skills showing that his CE wasn’t fully intact
dual task performance:
Baddeley and hitch supported the existence of the CE in a study
Task 1: occupied the CE - participants given the statement “B comes before A” and shown “AB” and then asked to say true or false
Task 2: involved the PL saying “the the the” or involved both the CE and PL saying random digits
Findings: they found that Task 1 was slower when Task 2 involved both the CE and PL demonstrating the dual task performance effect
