evaluating psychological research Flashcards
methodological issues
ecological validity
where the study represents a real life situation
population validity
where the sample is generalisable. you can take ideas and apply it to someone outside of the study
construct validity
where the test has been shown to measure what it is supposed to be testing
external validity
- population validity
- ecological validity
internal validity
construct validity
internal reliability
the research is kept the same, STANDARDISED for all participants.
it is replicable and can be repeated by another researcher to see if it gets the same results
external reliability
the study has enough participants to establish a consistent effect. if there are too little, then anomalies or flukes can skew the data
inter-rater reliability
when there are multiple observers who watch the same participants and reach to an agreement
ethnocentrism
the extent to which the study is focused on only ONE culture.
