evaluating an investigation(unit 3) Flashcards
what can you improve in an investigation
equipment
reactants
method
techniques
explain anomalous data
it does not fit the pattern of other results
when plotted on the graph it does not lie close to the line/curve of best fit
what causes anomalous data
not following method correctly
inaccurate measuring/recording of data
impurities
sources if errors
systematic errors- this is an error that is built in to the method or equipment you are using for example if balance is not correctly calibrated. this can be fixed by correctly calibrating
random error- these are due to not following the method correctly and can be minimised by repeating results and taking averages.
misreading of observations can cause quantitative error
