Evaluate Learning Key Question (8 marks) Flashcards
1
Q
HARDLAND (1984)
A
- The biological approach would suggest Harland (1984) looked at 34 pair of twins
- MZ twins concordance rate; 56%. → DZ twins concordance rate 7%.
- This shows the genetic link that with identical twins they share 100% genetics so if one twin had anorexia that the other twin would have anorexia.
2
Q
DIATHESIS STRESS MODEL
A
- Individual differences - diathesis stress Model
You have to have genetic vulnerability first and that environment to cause the anorexia. - This means you have that individual difference to develop anorexia because not everyone in that society develops anorexia.

Q
SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY
A
- Social learning theory
- the influences of role models and celebrities - for example they may believe in order to look slim and petite they should copy the lifestyle of these role models which is not always a healthy approach. For example eating only certain foods or the amount they eat
- Therefore the influences of the role models has meant the individual may develop anorexia because they followed the lifestyle of the role model which is a unhealthy approach but someone may think this is normal due to the influence of the role model.
4
Q
OPERANT CONDITIONING
A
- Operant conditioning
- Positive reinforcement - losing weight as people may believe they will be rewarded. → Negative reinforcement: not eating which can result in attention and this attention is reinforced, losing that fear of eating.
- Therefore this means due to the reinforcement someone may experience, they may find they have to live to certain expectations due to the reinforcement someone has given them.
