Emphasises her higher morality.
Further highlights corruption of upper class.

Reveals she was not afraid to speak up for more £ - consequently she was dismissed.
Capable of being leader - suggested threat to Mr B, doesn’t want to be seen as weak, manipulated by lower class –> reputation.

‘Had’ - suggests that was her only option, forced onto her, no choice.
Without work, her prospects declined.
‘Something else’ - euphemism for prostitution.
