What is the role of The Council?
Makes Broad Policy which is discussed at the European Summit which is held twice a year
How many people are in council meetings?
One representative from each country.
Different person depending on the topic being discussed
What two types of voting is there in the Council?
1) Qualified Majority - Larger Countries have more votes
2) Unanimous Voting
Who makes up the commission?
1 commissioner from each country leads a department and is supposed to act independently of their country
Appointed for 5 years
1 President and 2 VPs
What does the commission do?
Proposes legislation and policy to the council
Does Administration
Negotiates with non-EU countries
Ensures member states implement treaties correctly
Who makes up the EU Parliament?
750 MEPS
Elected by member state every 5 yrs
Meet once a month
President of the Parliament is elected for 2.5yrs
What does the EU Parliament do?
Discuss proposals from the commission
Question Commission and Council
NO Direct law making power
Who makes up the CJEU?
One judge from each state
Appointed under Article 253 TFEU for 6yrs

Hears cases against countries breaking EU Law usually brought by the Commission
