what is the EC composed of
A
heads of states / government (+ commission president)

what happens to members elected by the citizens of their state
A
they are elected to their roles within their own countries rather than those which they must perform within the supra - national sphere, thus undermining the democratic nature of their appointment

can they have an electoral mandate ?
A
yes, if that mandate does not relate absoloutely or even primarily to the tole which one goes on to perform

what do the EC do
A
provide political guidance and inter governmental checks

how is the president elected
A
elected every two and half years by QMV, must not hold national office (ART 15 TEU)

A
chairs meetings and drives forward
