Eukaryotic genetics-53 Flashcards
Intro
What is the importance of plants?
-They create the environment we live on
-Important for survival
Who was involved in the human genome project?
James Watson- discovered DNA
Craig Venter- used a computer to construct a chromosome
Eric Lander- father of genetics
What is the difference between genomics and genetics?
Genomics- technology, used to generate large datasets of digital information.
Genetics- method of experimentation, used to understand: cause and effect between genes and phenotypic variation.
What are human genetic diseases?
Cancer
Diabetes/obesity
Eye disorders
Heart disorders
Infectious disease
Nervous system
Digestive system

What is the importance of model organisms?
Similar features.
There is always a need for an experimental organism e.g. mouse.
What is holobiont?
An extended genome.
Host (multi-cellular) & microbiome (beneficial)
What is the immune system of plants like?
They have an innate immune system.
