Eukaryotic cell structures Flashcards
1
Q
Key characteristic of a eukaryotic cell
A
Genetic information being inside of a membrane-bound nucleus
2
Q
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
A
Network of tubes and membranes that carry material through the cell and play a role in protein modification and lipid synthesis; has two parts: rough ER (contains ribosomes) and smooth ER (does not contain ribosomes)
3
Q
Chloroplast
A
a plastid that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.
4
Q
Vacuole
A
A storage site for food, water and waste; the large center structure helps maintain the shape of the plant cells
5
Q
Lysosome
A
Breaks down food into particles the rest of the cell can use and destroys old cells
6
Q
Ribosome
A
Make proteins for the cell
