Eukaryotic Cell Structure and Function Flashcards
control center of the cell that contains DNA
Nucleus
inside nucleus, makes ribosomes
Nucleolus
phospholipid bilayer that surrounds all cells and regulates what enters and leaves the cell
Cell membrane
powerhouse of the cell, organelle that is the site of ATP energy production (cellular respiration)
Mitochondria
the most numerous organelle in most cells
Ribosomes
are found free-floating in the cytoplasm or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum
Ribosomes
Tiny organelles that link amino acids together to form proteins
Ribosomes
surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell and acts as a flexible barrier
Cell membrane
A cell structure that is attached to the nuclear membrane that forms a maze of passageways in which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell to another
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
An endomembrane system where lipids are synthesized, calcium levels are regulated, and toxic substances are broken down.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER)
System of internal membranes within the cytoplasm. Membranes are rough due to the presence of ribosomes. functions in transport of substances such as proteins within the cytoplasm
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER)
organelle in cells that modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and other materials sent from the endoplasmic reticulum for storage in the cell or release outside the cell
Golgi apperatus
