Eukaryotic Cell: Nucleus Flashcards
1
Q
Three big differences between eurakyotic & prokaryotic cells
A
- Eukaryotes have membrane bound nucleus
- Eukaryotes have membrane bound organelles
- Eukaryotes divide by mitosis while prokaryotes undergo binary fission
2
Q
Describe the nuclear envelope structure & function
A
- Double membrane
- Perforated by pores
- Pore complex proteins control entry/exit
- Webbing (nuclear lamina) provides shape
All in all, it acts as a gatekeeper, regulating protein & RNA movement
3
Q
What is chromatin?
A
A complex of protein and DNA
4
Q
What is the nucleolus?
A
A structure within the nucleus where ribosomal RNA is synthesized.
