eubacteria Flashcards
what are eubacteria also called as?
TRUE BACTERIA
how are eubacteria characterised?
it can be characterised by the presence of rigid cell wall, and if they are motile then have flagella too
give an example of eubacteria
BGA / CYANOBACTERIA
what does bga have thats similar to plants?
it have chlorophyll-A, pigment that makes it autotrophic
explain the structure of a BGA
it has filamentous/ colonial body, they are surrounded by gelatinous sheath around those cells, they have special cells heterocysts that can fix N2 [ found in FW / MW ]
how can the presence of bga affect the water?
they form blooms in polluted water
give egs of cyanobacteria that have heterocysts:
NOSTOC AND ANABAENA
explain chemosynthetic autotrophic bga
they oxidise various organic substances such as nitrites, nitrates, and ammonia and they also used the released energy for ATP synthesis, they also recycle nitrogen sulphur, phosphorus, iron, sulphur
which type of mode of nutrition of bacteria is the most abundant?
heterotrophic bacteria
what are the several diseases caused by bacteria?
cholera, typhoid, tetanus, citrus canker etc
how do bacteria reproduce asexually?
they have spore formation during unfavourable conditions
how do bacteria reproduce sexually?
they form a conducting tube b/w two bacteria thro pilli and then DNA material (plasmid) is transferred from 1 to another bacterium
tell about the cell wall of mycoplasm
it doesnt have cell wall
what is it known as, why is it special? [mycoplasma]
it is the smallest known living cell
does it perform anaerobic or aerobic respiration? [myco]
it can survive without oxygen, mostly anaerobic
