ETOPS Flashcards
WHAT ETOPS STAND FOR….
EXTENDED-RANGE TWIN-ENGINE OPERATION PROCEDURES AND STANDARD
EXTENDED TWIN ENGINE OPERATION
WHAT IS THE ETOPS OPERATION FOR?
ETOPS IS A SET OF RULES AND REGULATION, WHICH ALLOWS TWIN ENGINE AIRPLANE TO FLY LONGER DISTANCES WITH WAYPOINTS BEYONDS 60 MINUTES FROM AN ADEQUATE AIRPORT
WHAT IS AN ADEQUATE AERODROME?
An aerodrome which is considered to be satisfactory, taking account of the applicable performance requirements and runway characteristics; at the expected time of use, the aerodrome will be available and equipped with necessary ancillary services such as ATS, sufficient lighting, communications, weather reporting, navaids and emergency services.
WHAT IS AN ADEQUATE ETOPS ENROUTE ALTERNATE AERODROME? ( ETOPS ERA)
An adequate aerodrome which additionally, at the expected time of use, has an ATS facility and at least one instrument approach procedure.
WHAT IS AN EEP ? (ENTRY POINT)
The ETOPS entry point is the point on the aeroplane’s outbound route which is one hour flying time at the approved one-engine-inoperative cruise speed (under standard conditions in still air) from an adequate aerodrome
WHAT IS AN EXP? (EXIT POINT)
The ETOPS Exit Point is the point located on the aircraft’s route, where the aircraft has been flying in an ETOPS segment; it enters an area of one hour flying time, at the selected one-engine-out diversion speed schedule (in still air and ISA condition) to an adequate aerodrome
WHERE AN ETOPS SECTOR START AND ENDS?
The ETOPS segment starts at the EEP and finishes at EXP (when the route is back and remains within the 60-minute area from an adequate aerodrome)
WHAT IS AN ETP?
An Equi-Time Point is a point on the aircraft route which is located at the same flying time from two suitable diversion aerodromes. The ETP position can be determined using computerized flight plan that features such capability, mathematically or graphically on navigation or plotting chart
WHATS A CRITICAL POINT?
The CP is the point on the route which is critical with regard to the ETOPS fuel requirements if a diversion has to be initiated from that point. The CP is usually, but not always (depending on the configuration of the area of operations), the last ETP within the ETOPS segment
WHAT IS AN AREA OF OPERATION?
It is an area where the diversion time, at any point along the proposed route of flight, to an adequate ETOPS en-route alternate aerodrome, is within the operator’s approved diversion time (under standard conditions in still air) at the approved one-engine-inoperative cruise speed
WHAT DO WE MEAN WITH DISPATCH MINIMA?
2.1.14 Dispatch
ETOPS en-route alternate aerodrome planning minima applies until point of dispatch. Point of Dispatch is when the aircraft first moves under its own power for the purpose of taking off.
WHICH IS THE APPROVED ENGINE INOP SPEED IN 789 OMAN AIR?
.85/340 KTS
REF WEIGHT FOR OMANAIR B789?
241 TON
AREA OF OPS IN OMAN AIR 789?
60 min = 443 nm
120 min = 859 nm
Which diversion strategies are available?
STD strategy (gives best fuel burn) + maximum diversion time :
Descend to ceiling and set LRC SPD
OBSTACLE strategy : clear of all obstacle :
FIXED SPD (ETOPS) : SET 340 kts. / .85 Check alt capability (gives maximum distance)
