systems are based upon exchange of indispensable or highly useful utilities, such as pottery, dried yams or fish. However, the system is based primarily on two articles of high value but of little use- necklets of dry shells and armshells. Both are ornamental but hardly used for this purpose, They circulate over many miles in opposing directions. Both articles never stay in the hands of one owner for any length of time- they are constantly in circulation and exchange.
