A

E - Palmer found I think minority groups are more likely to face material deprivation in white e.g. nearly 50% of ethnic minority children live in low income households compared to 25% of white children.
E - Children from poorer households may lack essential resources, such as Internet, private tuition, basic equipment. They may also face barriers like overcrowded housing, poor nutrition, and part time jobs which affects their concentration in attendance leading to underachievement.
E - Fox argues the effects of racism on educational attainment go beyond material dep, even economically advantaged ethnic minority students are still subject to negative effects of institutional racism.

Fathers, gangs and culture - Sewell (2009)

A

E - Sewell suggests black Caribbean boys grow up in lone parent families, often hated by women resulting in a lack of male role model. This leads to the adoption of aunty school subcultures were young men tend to gangs and Street culture for identity in support, rather than academic success.
E - This reinforces, a masculinity based on aggression and defiance, which conflict with the academic values promoted by school as a result these boys adopt attitudes that devalue education and reject importance of academic achievement leading to lower performance.
E - Landell move the focus away from blaming black families and points to institutional racism and teacher bias, unlike Sewell she avoids stereotyping.
