What is the purpose of the 5 Rules of Conduct?
*support positive change in the built and natural environments, through promoting and enforcing the highest ethical standards.
What is Rule 1 and give me an example?
*must be honest, act with integrity and comply with their professional obligations, including obligations to RICS.
*open and transparent with clients about their fees and services.
*do not allow themselves to be influenced improperly by others (e.g gifts and hospitality).
What is Rule 2 and give me an example?
*must maintain their professional competence and ensure that services are provided by competent individuals who have the necessary
expertise.
* Only undertake work that they have the knowledge, skills.

What is Rule 3 and give me an example?
- must provide good-quality and diligent service.
- understand clients’ needs and objectives.
- communicate with clients and others clearly and in a way they can understand.
- Firms have effective quality assurance processes for their work.
What is Rule 4 and give me an example?
- must treat others with respect and encourage diversity and inclusion.
- do not discriminate against anyone.
What is Rule 5 and give me an example?
- act in the public interest, take responsibility for their
actions and act to prevent harm and maintain public confidence in the profession. - respond to complaints made against them promptly, openly and professionally.
- Members consider the effect that any health conditions may have on their competence
or ability to undertake professional work, and inform management or clients where they require
reasonable adjustments or are unable to continue to undertake work competently.

What are the mandatory professional obligations to RICS Regulated Firms?
There are 7.
1. Comply with CPD
2. ensure that all previous and current professional work is covered by professional indemnity cover.
3. Firms with a sole principal must make appropriate arrangements for their professional work to
continue in the event of their incapacity, death, absence from or inability to work.
4. Cooperate with RICS.
5. Promptly provide all information reasonably requested by the Standards and
Regulation Board, or those exercising delegated authority on its behalf.
6. Advertise that they are regulated by RICS.
7. Report to RICS any matter that they are required to report under the Rules for the
Registration of Firms
