Briefly outline the 5 step EDMM (Shaw et al.)

A
  1. Identify there is an ethical issue present
    -Jones (1991) - ‘Moral Intensity’ + Seek supervision
    HARM
    1)Probability - how likely is this to happen?
    2) temporal immediacy - is it happening now?
    3) Magnitude of consequences - how severe are the consequences to the individual ? life lost?
    4) concentration of effect? how many people/networks will be affected?
    PRESSURE:
    5) proximity? how much is this my problem?
    6) social consensus - what do others think about it?
  2. Identify which parts of the APS code apply + relevant legal issues + all rights/responsibilities/vulnerabilities of parties involved
  3. Examine all available options + strenghts/weaknesses of each + consequences (sociocultural impacts and considerations)
  4. Decide and implement option - high record keeping
  5. Reflect and review –> what could i have done differently? was this avoidable? how can i prevent it in the future/learn from this?

What are the three core areas?

Give general examples for each of the three

A

A. Respect (justice + informed consent + privacy + CONFIDENTIALITY + release of info)
B. propriety (competency, accepting clients, conflicting demands, interpreters, assessments, provision and termination of services, record keeping )
C. Integrity (reputable behaviour, communication, non-exploitation, conflict of interest, research, following through on client commitments)
