What is human research? What does it involve?
Human research is conducted with or about people, or their data or tissue. It involves: surveys, treatment, observation, data, collection of bodily samples and access to information.
What constitutes low risk research?
Activities where participants are unlikely to suffer burden or harm. These studies must not present any more than a minimal risk.
What is quality assurance?
An organised process that evaluates, assesses and seeks to improve service delivery as well as outcomes.
How do we ensure quality assurance?
Data is collected for the purposes of research only. The student may not publish results. Results are for informational purposes only; informing policy or decision-making.
Which ethical principles are involved in PACE?
Merit and integrity, Just research, Beneficence (respect, risks, consent)
What data collection methods can a student undertake on placement?
Interviews, focus groups, face-to-face and online questionnaires, participant observation
What needs to be considered regarding ethical conduct during research and QA-based PACE activities?
Recruitment, risk, illegal activities, minors, ID, Indigenous participants, breaches of ethics, informed consent
What does the trolley problem ask the reader to make a choice about?
How human lives can be valued comparatively
