Data protection act 2018
Gives rights of data to data subjects - six points
Data should be kept safe and secure
Data must only be used in a fair, lawful and transparent way
Data must only be used for the specific purpose
Data should be adequate, relevant and not excessive for the specified use
Data must be accurate and up to date
Data should not be kept for longer than neccessary

Protects intellectual property (something someone has created)

Written or recorded content - illegal to share, use or plagiarise without the owners permission
Patents
New inventions - protects ideas and concepts instead of actual content
Computer misuse act 1990
Illegal to:
Gain unauthorised access to a private network
Gain unauthorised access to a private network with intent to cause harm
Modify computer material without authorisation
Make, supply or obtain Malware
Open source Software
Source code made freely available - able to be changed by users
Proprietary Software
Paid for software that only releases the compiled code - unable to modify or redistribute
