Q

How do we make better decisions?

A

Allan (2018) proposes two strategies to help improve ethical decision-making: 1. develop heuristics to choose among the best options, and 2. develop protocols specifically aimed at guiding conscious and non-conscious decision-making. (note: also, consult others!)

Q

What are the consequences of breaching the code of ethics?

A

(In QLD) A complaint can be lodged against you with Office of the Health Ombudsman - these complaints can result in no action, losing registration, and possible legal/criminal proceedings. People lodge complaints through health complaints organisation if they are seeking explanation, apology, refund, protocol change etc. People lodge complaints through AHPRA if the concern is about a specific practitioner not behaving appropriately.
