by when do hmrc have to make clear their intention to make an enquiry into tax affairs?

A

a year after submission date OR the quarter day following anniversary of submission date (if filed late), quarter dates are 31/Jan 30 Apr etc

A

hmrc determine your tax and they must do this within 3 years of filing date

what happens if hmrc discover that full disclosure was not made?

A

they can do a ‘discovery assessment’ if this was completely innocent the non-full disclosure they have 4 years to do so. if it is carless then they have 6 years and if it is due to deliberate behaviour then thay have 20 years to make a asesss
