Standardized ethics were created after
world war II
Ethics aim to:
avoid harm, have informed consent, avoid unnecessary depiction, guarantee privacy and confidentiality,
reserach ethically needs
institutional approval (ethics board), accurate record keeping, only necessary inducement for participants, debreif particiapnts
to avoid harm means to:
prevent both physical and psychology harm to participants, to reduce/minimize all risks involved, inform participants of all harm,
debriefing invloves
study explained in detail including why it was done, why any deception occurred, and information about what result could mean, questions freely answered,
clinical equipoise
genuine uncertainty as to which treatment is more effective
informed consent must be:
voluntary, done by a participant who has full understanding, done when all known risks have been explained.
deception can be passive or active, the difference is?
whether information was simply withheld (passive), or whether misleading information was given active)
when using animals some ethical rules still apply this are;
minimization or risk, done professionally.
