CONFIDENTIALITY
-counsellors need to understand confidentiality
-even the fact that the client is seeing you is confidential
THREE EXCEPTIONS;
Potential homicide or assault
Potential suicide or serious self-abuse
Child physical and or sexual abuse
(anyone under the age of 19 is a child in BC)
RESPECT for dignity and rights of counselees
-Respecting the counselee and making sure they know that they are a person, and not an object
INFORMED CONSENT
-Counselors hold right to informed consent;
clients full and active participation in decisions which affect them, and freedom of choice based on the information shared
COMPETENCE
- Must be capable of delivering the services that they offer
- embodied in the qualities of knowledge, ability,experience, and judgment
INTEGRITY
-counselors aspire to embody the qualities of professional integrity
ETHICS
- Confidentiality
- respect for dignity/rights of counselee

- Competence
- Integrity
