ETHICS
makes claims about cosmology, social behavior, and the “proper” treatment of others, etc. Ethics are based on logic and reason rather than tradition.
RELIGIONS
sense of knowing what the right answer or decision is before you make it. It’s a deep, internal, visceral feeling. You know your intuition is around when you say things like, “I can’t really explain it, but…” or “It just felt right or wrong.”
INTUITIVE FEELINGS
- the standards we live by. They are the SHARED expectations and rules that guide behavior of people within social groups. Cultural norms are learned and reinforced from parents, FRIENDS, teachers, and others while growing up in a society.
CULTURAL NORMS
laws carry with them a punishment for violations ethics do not.
LAWS AND POLICIES
- a professional code of conduct is a document that explains to employees how they are expected to act on behalf of their company.
PROFESSIONAL CODES OF CONDUCT
the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats.
COERCION
The applied discipline that addresses the moral features of nursing practice, it is a subset of health care ethics or bioethics.
NURSING ETHICS
an ethical theory that says actions are good or bad according to a clear set of rules.

Mainly deals with the honesty and morality of a person. It states that practicing good habits such as honesty, generosity makes a moral and virtuous person.
VIRTUE ETHICS
rests on the idea that it is the consequences or results of actions, laws, policies, etc. that determine whether they are good or bad, right or wrong.
UTILITARIANISM
judges consequences by a ‘greatest good for the greatest number’ standard.
UTILITARIANISM
is therefore concerned with the character of individual nurses and seeks ways TO enable nurses to develop character traits appropriate for actions that enhance well being.
