How will we consider privacy
Privacy is controlling personal information as to not share it
For example in this experiment, not having participants share bedrooms(invasion of privacy)
How do we consider confidentiality
-no names listed
-participants select a participant number made up of their house number and birth year so they are not identifiable in the results
How do we consider deception
Ensure there is no deception by letting participants know the aims of the experiment from the start
How do we consider right the withdraw
Brief at the start
Debrief at the end
Let them know they can withdraw at any time during the study
48 hour reflection period after the experiment is complete to allow time to withdraw if needed
How do we consider informed consent
Each p is given a consent form
Vulnerable children under 16 are given consent by proxy from the head teacher of ND
How do we consider protection from stress, anxiety, humiliation or pain
No physical harm
Participants may worry about sleep score which can cause unnecessary anxiety or stress
Debrief will offer help and guidance e.g. links to websites
How will we ensure reliability
Internal reliability- split half A measure of consistency where a test is split in two and the scores for each half of the test is compared with one another.
External reliability- test retest method to compare results using the same participants several times
How will we ensure validity
Internal validity- the findings are accurate and the do are caused by the iv-
External validity- whether the study paints a true picture of real life behaviours
Researcher bias, demand characteristics, social desirability etc
