What is deontological ethics based on?
A
The idea that certain actions are ‘right and others ‘wrong’ thus required or prohibited as an aspect of moral duty.

- Autonomy - recognising the rights and respect for the individual to make their own decisions for themselves.
- Beneficence - actively do good and promote health
- non-maleficence - duty to cause no harm in terms of the risks versus benefits of any treatment.
- Justice - treat all people fairly without discrimination.

The best action is the one that maximises the potential for positive outcomes as compared to other courses of action.
