Ethical Scenarios Flashcards
You have a 10 year old child with a phimosis. What are the causes of phimosis?
Trauma or infection [BXO]
What are the main indications for a circumcision in a child?
BXO mainly, the majority of the time it would be reassurance to the parents and encourage foreskin stretching. phimosis is likely to resolve when the boy is prepubescent
You examine the child and note cigarette marks in his legs, what do you do?
Patient safety is the highest priority and I am concerned of a Non-accidental Injury. I would ensure the patient and parent stays in the room and make sure they do not leave the hospital premises.
I would contact my consultant in the clinic or the on-call consultant regarding my concerns and search for guidance in the local policy for handling Non-accidental injuries. If neither of us know I would get in contact with the paediatric registrar on-call for advice and how to move forward with this.
