Privacy - to what extent do we have a right to privacy (often trade off between security and privacy)
Inclusivity - to what extent does computing marginalise people (elderly can’t adapt to change, developing countries might get left behind)
Professionalism - does computing work in work context? lack of training/ standards can cause mass unemployment as computers take jobs. Plagiarism, theft of code
Environmental issues
Health - mental + physical. tech can make huge difference to health. social media not healthy fo r physical health
energy: electricity and non renewable recourses
Resources: finite resources used in technology in trace amounts, hard to extract as used in trace amounts
Cultural
Social media, spreading information, influence opinion
Cyber security
illegal to make unauthorised changes to computer material to commit further crimes (blackmail) or to impair computers operation (virus)
Intellectual property
Potected with patents and copy rights
Patent
legal document, stops other people from making or using their invention. Software usually can’t be patented
Copyright
legal ownership, about permission
software license
shows that you have permission to use the software
proprietary software
licensed under strict conditions. user cannot modify or distribute as source code is not available, has already been translated
Open source software
license allows user to study, modify, or distribute
