Informed Consent (Ethical)
A
- Are participants aware of the aims of the study? Are they aware they are part of research?
- Participants must be told what they will be doing, how long it will take and the true aims of the study.
- Children cannot give this themselves - it needs to be gained from a parent.

Deception (Ethical)
A
- This is where the researcher does not reveal their true aims of the study and mislead the participants.
- In this case, participants cannot give informed consent.
- Is there a need to hide the fact that we are conducting research on them?

Confidentiality (Ethical)
A
- How might participants react to disclosing information that could threaten their jobs, safety, etc?
- The participants should not be identifiable in the research. Their names and personal details should not be used and their personal space should be respected.
- All data must be kept in accordance with GDPR guidelines.

Right to Withdraw (Ethical)
A
- Participants should be able to stop the study and withdraw at any point during the research.
- They should be told about this right at the beginning and end of the study (in the debrief).

Protection From Harm (Ethical)
A
Participants should not be harmed physically or psychologically as a result of being in the research.

Debriefing (Ethical)
A
Done after the research is complete. Participants are told the true aims of the investigation and given the chance to ask any questions they may have (and withdraw entirely).
