ETC and Oxidative Phosphorylation Flashcards
1
Q
Name three uncouplers in the ETC?
A
- 2,4-DNP
- asprin
- thermogenin from brown fat
2
Q
How do uncouplers work?
A
They increase the permeability of the membrane which decreases proton gradient and increases O2 consumption making ATP synthesis stop. But ETC continues so it produces heat without energy.
3
Q
What inhibits ATP synthase and stops ETC?
A
Oligomycin
4
Q
What 2 toxins block Complex I?
A
- Rotenone
2. Amytal
5
Q
What toxin blocks complex III?
A
Antimycin
6
Q
What blocks the transfer of electrons in complex IV?
A
Cyanide and CO
7
Q
Which complex reduces O2?
A
Complex IV
