What is the formula for comparativos de desigualidad?
más (o menos) + adjetivo + que (than)
- in this case, we change the vowel for feminine and masculine
What do we do in the case of pronouns, adverbs and numbers?
- pronouns can be used in this case
- adverbs can be used but do not change for gender
- numbers use “de” instead of que
What is the formula for comparativos de igualidad?
(as) tan + adjetivo (or adverb) + como (as)
- changes for gender
What do we do in the case of adverbs and nouns?
- adverbs do not change for gender
- nouns use the formula tanto/a/os/as + nombre + como
What are some irregular comparatives?
- Age and Better than/Worse than
Mayor que/ menor que and mejor que and peor que - They are invariable in gender but change for plural tense (Ella es mejor - Ellas son mejores)
What is the formula for superlatives (el, la, los, las)?
- Defined article (el, la, los, las) + noun (sometimes optional) + más + adjective + de (sometimes optional) —— “en” is sometimes used as well
What are some irregular superlatives?
El mayor de… (the oldest of…) Sergio es el mayor de la familia
El mejor de… (the best of…) En matemáticas, Jorge es el mejor de su clase // Ellos son los mejores
El peor de … (the worst of…)
Gender and number is changed in correlation to the article
What are some absolute superlatives?
- Equivalent to “extremely - extremadamente”
- Formed using adjective or adverb with the addition of the suffixes (ísimo/a/os/as)
Examples
- Caro - extremadamente caro = carísimo
Car- + ísimo = carísimo
- Bello - extremadamente bello = bellísimo
- Rico- ric+ísimo = *ricísimo = riquísimo (ajustar la letra para mantener sonido)
