Rhetorical
(5 Paragraphs)
First is the intro with PASTA - stating the author, their position and title (exigence), what the piece of writing/speech is named, the type of piece (essay, report, journal, speech, etc.), the author’s purpose, the date it was given/written, the context surrounding the piece, and “the author communicated ___ by using rhetorical devices”
Second, third, and fourth are body paragraphs: topic sentence (the author starts off by calling for blah blah blah to blah blah blah, they do this through rhetorical choices such as ___ and ___), lead in sentence for the first rhetorical device and stating where in the speech/writing it was used (line x, paragraph y), then a transition before the quote (the author wants to communicate blah blah blah through using a insert rhetorical device here and says, “quote”), then a sentence or two explain the quote, then repeat everything after the topic sentence, then a conclusion statement wrapping all of the devices and points you made in your paragraph. You only need 5 rhetorical devices max so for the 4th paragraph only have to complete the formula once, not repeat after the topic.”
Finally - 5th paragraph - conclusion: Basically just restate your intro paragraph with different wording and get rid of the PASTA statement. Its just 2 to 3 sentences saying the author used ___, ____, ____, _____, and ___ to communicate blah blah blah and take a stance on blah blah blah to blah blah blah.
