Q

1 Corinthians 8:6 says there is one God, God the Father, and since Jesus is not the Father, therefore He is not God. Defend that Jesus is God.

A

The verse 1 Cor. 8:6 does not deny the divinity of Jesus Christ but rather, it talks about the role of the Father and the Son in creation and redemption.

The verse even affirms that Jesus is God since Paul referenced Deut. 6:4 (“The LORD is one”) but applies “Lord” to Jesus, showing unity with the Father. Also, Jesus is the agent of creation, which only God can be (Gen. 1:1).

The word being used here is also the language or title used to God the Father is clearly also used to Jesus. - Jehovah “I AM”, which only applies to God, is also used to Jesus. (Isaiah 13:10, John 13:13)

Q

If Jesus Christ the Son and also the Holy Spirit are rightly called God, does not this make 3 Gods, 1+1+1=3? Defend your answer.

A

No, in the sense that, the word God means Authority, Sovereignty, Power and Dominion, etc. and in this authority, rule, or Power is being shared by three distinct person, the father, the son and the holy Spirit these three are one in Purpose, Dominion John 10:30, authority, Ruling Matthew 28:18, etc.. not necessarily the quantifying matter, rather the Idea of Rule, Power and Authority over all creation, etc.

When the bible talks about 1, it doesn’t necessitate to be always an absolute one. Rather often times, if not always it refers to being in union of a certain thing. Just like in Genesis 1:24, John 10:30.
Its not 1+1+1, rather 1x1x1
