Adenocarcinoma: lower esophagus (columnar cells)
- look for shouldering and irregularity
Barrett with stricture
Eosinophilic esophagitis: thickened transverse rings
contrast this to feline esophagus. Feline esophagus is characterized by thin diffuse transverse rings
Diffuse esophageal spasm
Esophageal Varices: serpentine filling defects
Typically uphill varices from portal hypertension (cirrhosis)
*will disapear when the esophagus is dilated due to increased pressure compressing the veins and pushing the blood out.
**contrast this to eosinophilic esophagitis which is thickened transverse folds in the upper esophagus
70 yo male with dysphagia.
benign condition. occurs in older patients. incidental finding, not typically a cause of the dysphagia - look for another cause.
