How to diagnose esophageal Cancer?
1-barium swallow first
2-endoscopy is mandatory because this diagnosis requires a tissue biopsy.
3-CT scan detects the degree of local spread
4-bronchoscopy detects asymptomatic spread into the bronchi
5-Endoscopic U/S is performed for staging
What is the treatment of esophegeal cancer?
1-surgical resection if localized to esophagus.
2-Chemotherapy with a 5-fluorouracil combined with radiation to control locally metastatic disease.
