What is omission?
Where letters are left out. E.g. Tere- there
What is insertion?
Where unnecessary letters are added to a word, e.g- adding toe to the end of potatoe because of the similarity in pronunciation
What is substitution?
Where one place takes the place of another. E.g. Phone- fone
What is transposition?
Where the correct letters are used but in the wrong order.
What is phonetic spelling?
Where a child spells a word as she hears it, using the grapheme which is normally associated with the sound. E.g. Clean-cleen
What is over or under generalisation?
Where the child applies rules over or under generously. E.g. Doubling consonants after short vowels, pitty- pity = virtuous error
What are salient sounds?
Only writing the significant letters found in a word, e.g. Org- orange
