Errors Flashcards
What is a systematic error?
An error that causes the measurement to always differ the same way - such as an error caused by a poorly calibrated instrument
What is a random error?
An error that is equally larger than the true value as it is smaller - for example the reading error in measuring a length with a ruler
What is interpolation?
The process of estimating positions between markings
If the answer is 92.81 with an error of 0.3, how should it be stated?
92.8 +-0.3
Define reliable/repeatable?
A result is reliable/repeatable if each test the result gives the same answer, even if it is a wrong answer.
Define accuracy?
Accuracy is when the average of repeats is very close to the true value.
Define precision?
Precision is the degree of accuracy used - minutes are more accurate than hours, therefore they are more precise.
