Errors Flashcards
What is an error in a practical investigation?
-The difference between the true and the calculated value
What is a random error, how is it caused, what does it effect, and how is it reduced?
Definition:
-A chance difference between the observed and true values of something
Caused by:
-An incorrect use of equipment
Effect:
-The precision of the results
Reduced:
-By repeating and removing anomalies
What is a human error, how is it caused, what does it effect, and how do you reduce it?
Definition:
-An unintentional action which causes a mistake in the practical due to differences in our body system
Caused by:
-Reaction time differences
Effects:
-The accuracy and precision of the results
Reduced by:
-Using a machine or a system
What is a parallax error, and how is it caused?
Definition:
-When the pointer of a device looks like it’s at a different reading
Caused By:
-When the reader is reading sideways/or at a different height, rather than face on
What is a systematic error, how is it caused, what does it effect, and how can it be reduced?
Definition:
-A consistent error in measurement
Caused by:
-A lack of equipment calibration
-Faulty equipment
Effects:
-The accuracy of the results
Reduced by:
-By calibrating or changing the equipment
