ERQ's and command terms Flashcards
How to answer a ‘contrast’ ERQ
give an account of the differences between two (or more) items or situations, referring to both of of them throughout
*describe each model/study clearly and concisely
*only differences are assessed not similarities
*differences need to be stated and compared
How to answer an ‘evaluate’ ERQ
Make an appraisal by weighing up the strengths and limitations
*describe models/study clearly and concisely
*if the question talks about MODELS = evaluate model using TEACUP not MAGEC
*evaluation points need to be explained
- e.g. explain why a study has high internal validity, why it is important etc.
How to answer a “to what extent’ ERQ
Consider the merits or otherwise of an argument or concept. Opinions and conclusions should be presented clearly and supported with appropriate evidence and sound argument
*looks at both sides and than determine which is the stronger argument
How to answer a “discuss” ERQ
Offer a considered and balanced review that includes a range of arguments, factors or hypotheses. Opinions or conclusions should be presented clearly and supported by appropriate evidence.
*
Important tips for MAGEC evaluation
support statements
e.g. ecologically valid
- why, how, what does this mean in terms of the study
Important tips for implementing research studies
- describe clearly and concisely
- talk more about what it teaches or how it supports a theory
