Erosion Flashcards
The process by wich wind, water, ice, or gravity transports soil and sediment from one location to another
Erosion
The process by wich rock materials are broken down by the action of physical or chemical process
Weathering
The continuous movement of water from the ocean to the atmosphere to the land and back to the ocean
Water Cycle
When water gets pulled into the sky due to the sun
Evaporation
The change of state from a gas to a liquid
Condensation
Any form of water that falls to the Earth’s surface from the clouds
Precipitation
liquid passing through a filter
Percolation
When water flows down a hill
runoff
A stream that flows into a lake or into a larger stream
Tributary
The area of land that is drained by a water system
Watershed
Continents moving by the ice.
Continental divide
The process in wich material is laid down
Deposition
A fan-shaped mass of material deposited at the mouth of a stream
Delta
a fan-shaped mass of material deposited by a stream when the slope of the land decreases sharply
Alluvial Fan
An area along a river that forms from sediments deposited when the river overflows its banks
Floodplain
