Erosion Flashcards
erosion
the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents.
weathering
wear away or change the appearance or texture of (something) by long exposure to the air.
water cycle
the cycle of processes by which water circulates between the earth’s oceans, atmosphere, and land, involving precipitation as rain and snow, drainage in streams and rivers, and return to the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration.
evaporation
the process of a substance in a liquid state changing to a gaseous state due to an increase in temperature and/or pressure. Evaporation is a fundamental part of the water cycle and is constantly occurring throughout nature.
condensation
the change of water from its gaseous form
precipitation
rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to the ground.
percolation
the process of a liquid slowly passing through a filter.
runoff
movement of landwater to the oceans, chiefly in the form of rivers, lakes, and streams.
