Infant up to 1 year

Autonomy vs shame and doubt

-child learns to exercise free will and accomplish task or doubt his abilities
Initiative vs guilt

-child learns to initiate activities and plan or feels guilty about his inabilities
Competence vs inferiority
Elementary school
-6 years up to puberty
-child gains pleasure from accomplishment or he feels inferior
Identity vs role confusion
Adolescence
Teens into 20s
- teen refine their identities and try different roles
- teens lose their sense of who they are and what they will become
Intimacy vs isolation
Young adult
-20 to 40
-young adult seek to develop close and intimate social relationships or remain socially isolated
Generativity vs stagnation
Middle-aged
40 to 60
-adult develop a sense of well-being through contribution to work and family or they feel lack of purpose
