This shows Eric’s slightly lower class nature. He has lived his life with everything being given to him, so he has become spoilt and not had to keep up his own reputation. This results in his lower class speech
“I wasn’t in love with her or anything- but I liked her- she was pretty and a good sport”
This quote sums up Eric’s relationship with Eva. He wasn’t in love, but he liked having company. At this point, she would take anything
“She didn’t want me to marry her. Said I didn’t love her and all that. In a way, she treated me as if I were a kid”
This quotation shows how Eric cares for Eva, but his efforts are ineffective. This is most likely because of Eva’s past experience with Gerald and how he ended up having to leave her
“What’s the use talking about behaving sensibly. You’re beginning to talk like nothings really happened at all. And I can’t see it like that. The girls still dead isn’t she?”
This quote shows Eric and Sheila’s similarities. They are the younger, modern Birlings, and as a result still feel as though they wronged Eva and even after finding out the inspector was ‘fake’, they still wish they didn’t act the way they did.

This shows Eric’s difference from his parents, as the only reason they cared was because if news got out about Eva then they would have lost their reputations and business, and lost their class. But Eric and Shiela were upset because of how they had hurt someone for no reason.
