Reconstruction
This era redefined U.S citizenship and changed the relationship between the federal government and state government. It would also form the basis of the mid 20th century civil rights movement
Gilded Age
This marks an era where the United States of America dealt with political problems such as corruption and went through drastic changes in economy, technology, and government while growing rapidly economically.
Progressive Era
This was an era where the United States went through a lot of political reform and social activism with women fighting for more rights, families fighting for better education for their kids, and people wanting to solve corruption and industrialization problems.
World War 1
This was the first global war in which the United States participated in 1914-1918. The United States would join the war to help the allies and help save autocracy and defend democracy.
Roaring 20’s
In this era, the United States would go through a moment of economic and lifestyle prosperity in the 1920’s. There would be economic growth and many new cultures were introduced into the lifestyle as well as music with the introduction of Jazz.
Great Depression
This was an era where the country suffered economical lost. It was the worst depression ever experienced as it would start in the U.S. and then spread worldwide. This would spark change in economic institutions such as banks.
World War 2
This War that lasted from 1939 - 1945. When the war started the United States didn’t want to take part in the war but would later be attacked by Japan on Pearl Harbor as they wanted to expand and the United States was forced to participate and defend their land.
Cold War
Tension and competition between the U.S and communist USSR ; threat of nuclear war
New frontier and Great Society
New leadership, bold ideas, prosperity; space race Johnsons Great society - social welfare, civil rights
Post War Boom
American dream- social conformity, suburban and automobile culture, baby boom; TV
Civil Rights Movement
Non violent protest - voting rights, desegregation, federal support U.S states resistance; Black Power movement
Vietnam War Years
Domino theory - contain communism war divides the country - campus protest, draft resistance
Era of social change
Women, Latinos, and Native Americans seek equality ; Hippie counterculture; “do your own thing”
