Water Extinguisher
PFC:
Check safety wire with led seal is intact

Fire Blanket

Check it’s available
Operation:
Remove from hard plastic cover, unfold, surround object/person/place to smother or starve the oxygen
Fire Gloves
PFC:
Check it’s available
Operation:
Can handle hot, not burning, material or debris
Offers 16 seconds protection if item is 250°C, but only 5 seconds at 300°C
Requirement:
Non-mandatory
Precautions:
No protection from chemicals, sharp objects or flame
Once wet, remove
To dispose, check for embers or scolding material
Beacon
PFC:
Required number available
Mandatory
Arming switch is in the armed position
Operation:
Unfasten velcro straps, remove from bracket, antenna will deploy (is spring loaded, watch eyes), pull firmly to break metal strap, deploy antenna, switch it on with toggle switch, off switch to shut
Precautions:
If water falls on it when the armed switch is activated, it will create a distress symbol, inform PIC and air traffic control and give label numbers
Smokehood
PFC:
Check the PBE is inside
Verify expiry date
Check metallic seal is intact, if not cabin log
If seal is broken, remove partially and check colour of humidity indicator, blue is cool and pink is stink (36 hours)
Operation:
Remove from container, hold pouch in knees, pull handles apart, grasp oxygen cylinder, pull sharply to activate oxygen flow, put hands in neck seal in prayer position, stretch seal as you put over head and neck, look for flashing green light at eye level/whooshing sound, if it inflates it can be used, should take 15 seconds to remove from stowage and wear
Precautions:
Provides 15 minutes of oxygen maximum
Cylinders last 8-10 minutes, but can be used for 15 minutes
When it deflates and touches the head, it must be removed and replaced
End of PBE use indicated by red and green flashing lights at eye level, but if no lights and collapses it must be replaced
If donning is not completed in 15 seconds of the start of oxygen flow, then PBE should be discarded (IMPORTANT)
Remove all sharp objects from head and ensure hair is tucked in

Operation:

Life Jacket:

Crew life jacket day glow red, pax is traffic yellow
Is available - 1/pp
Positioned in stowage to be visible and immediately available
Operation:
Remove from stowage, place over head, clip strap around waist and pull tight, inflate on exiting aircraft by pulling on red inflation toggle
Precautions:
Hold jacket against body when entering water, face straight ahead, extend legs straight down so feet hit the water
BCF
PFC: Lock pin has red plastic tie in place, if no red tie, report Pressure gauge, yellow and green Required number available Mandatory
Operation:
Remove from stowage, pull the lock pin from lever and handle, hold upright with fingers under handle and thumb on lever, test spray, stand back 2 metres from fire, aim nozzle at the base of the fire, press forward on lever, spray in quick side to side movements until fire is out
Standard First Aid Kit

Infant Life Jacket
PFC:
Traffic yellow

Positioned to be visible and immediately available
Operation:
Weight is 15.5kg or 35 pounds, has twin chambers, apron harness with three clip in buckles, two carbon dioxide gas cylinders, oral inflation tubes, water activated light for 12 hours and lifeline to attach to adult
Precautions:
Inform PIC if number of infants exceed number of life jackets
Oxygen Cylinder
PFC: Pressure indicating minimum 1600 psi Indication window shows red Mask and tubing attached to outlet Required number available Mandatory
Precautions:
Check bottle at 200 psi
Empty bottle at 50 psi
Check pax 10-15 minutes
When recovered, take pax name and address, complete cabin log, red tag and stow bottle with new supplemental mask, put used one in biohazard bag
Oxygen paradox
For infants/children: no mask on face, just next to them in bassinet
Caution - no naked flame within 3 metres or approx 3 seat row
No oxygen in contact with oil based make up, grease or dirt on hands
Loudhailer
PFC:
Squeeze handle for audible click
Required number available
Mandatory
Operation:
Squeeze handle, will flex slightly, turn loudhailer on, hold mouthpiece close to mouth and speak at normal volume, adjust volume control for volume
Precautions:
Always point it down the length of the cabin, not to the side/bulk head of cabin, to avoid feedback
When a/c repeat instructions enough times to ensure they are heard and understood
For siren, pull out pin

Precautions:

Crew Tabard

Operation:
Fit tabard using velcro of zip fastener
Purpose:
To ID crew under emergencies (for precautionary landing, keep tabard handy for use)
Crash Axe

Mandatory
Operation:
Make a series of small cuts (rather than large), to open a panel/jammed door/window exit pointed arm to be inserted into gap or hole and handle rotated for leverage, advise flight crew to isolate power
