Express themselves mostly through ears. Ears that are forward mean they’re alert, ears that are flicking back and forth mean they’re nervous, ears that are pinned back mean they’re angry or fearful.
What expressions can you infer from the tail of a horse?
Wringing or circling means they’re nervous, straight down might mean pain or sleeping, clamped tight can be they’re fearful nervous or stressed, swishing back and forth mean they’re shooing flies away.
Other body languages?
Pawing at the ground: bored/impatient
Stomping: irritation
Flehmen response: raises head, curls upper lip, displays front teeth (investigating smell in air)
How do you talk to horses?
In a calm, low voice
Can you walk behind a horse?
NO; stay greater than 10 feet away, the horse must know youre there. Also do not stand directly in front of a horse
